Viennoiseries are named after Vienna, the city they originated in before arriving in Paris in the 19th century. However one variety, brioche, comes from the west of France and has older roots, as can be seen in a 1763 Chardin painting hanging at the Louvre. Michel Izard names his own brioches after his four children.
